Scoot 787 Review

Scoot is moving towards an all 787 fleet. previously I fleet with scoot on their older plane 777 and was pleased with the service. It had an on board water dispenser so one could refill their water bottle free of charge and not have to pay SGD$4 for a small 330ml bottle of water. The new 787 has no water dispenser on board unfortunately, however I was informed that after paying SGD$4 that they would be happy to give me as many refills as I wanted. One way to get around this is to take an empty bottle or invest in a packable bottle like Vapur’s Element which I use and simply fill it up after passing through security. Theres almost always some water fountain after security to fill up.

There are a few cool features of the 787 that make it a great plane. For example theres a charging outlet under each seat, wifi onboard and the windows have an electronic tinting instead of a physical sliding screen. Being a budget airline however, the charging outlet costs SGD$8 to be able to use it for the duration of the flight. The wifi also costs USD$21.95 for 24 hours of use or USD$11.95 for one hour or USD$16.95 for 3 hours. I had trouble getting connected because the browser kept trying saying err_connection_timed_out. I later found out the errors were because the wifi wasn’t working for just that particular flight apparently.

Another slight downgrade from their older plane is that the seat on the 787 doesn’t have very good head support. The final problem I encountered was that on each armrest is a set of 3 buttons, light, cancel service and service. due to the rather central and top placing of these buttons I found myself accidentally pressing the light on frequently. I also noticed that many other people were accidentally pressing the service buttons without even realising it. Despite all that though I did feel less dried out during the flight and the tinted windows, onboard charging outlets and wifi are a solid step into the future.
